Depressed Dog?

Hi, last summer my family and I went up to Maine for a week, and left our 8 year old lab with a good family friend. We have only had him for about a year. When we came home and got him back, he was bouncing around like a puppy all excited about seeing us again, but imediatly after he said hi, he left to go out in the woods by himself. When he finally came in he went imediatly to his bed which is away from all of us. For the next week/ week and a half he was like this, barely even looking at us. He also did not eat for about a day after. Why is this?

Poor guy missed you! My dog does that when I am gone for awhile… kinda like the puppy cold shoulder. Now, when we leave, we make sure to bring her souveniers back too, things like toys or treats. Pay him lots of attention and make sure he knows you love him when you get back.
