I have trained dogs and would provide great home…have had large dog (Akita) but lost him to cancer in Nov @age 9 after taking him to UC Davis for many treatments. Had Shar-pie also…she died end of Oct…@12 years old Have a home with fenced yard and 24 hours a day to give lots of love and attention and loving training.

need help with my dog training?

ok i have a 9 month old yellow lab bred by my dads 2 other black labs which the male hunts and while training i have close to being finished except that when i shoot he is fine and doesn’t run off but when he comes back he comes back really slow and keeps looking at the gun when he retrieves the dummy instead of running back like he normally does with out the shot but when i just hold the gun he runs back to me with no problem so im just wondering if it is a stage that he will grow out of but please help me out i want to have him ready before this dove season opens up and thank you for every answer u give me

Maybe he is thinking you are shooting again. Treat him with small goodies that he loves when he does it right. Call him back and encourage him when he picks it up with happy tone of voice. I started my black lab dog off with a cap pistol moving up to 12ga and he always loved to bring it back. I tossed it in the water so he had to swim so that it was realistic to retrieving down ducks.
